U11 Superstars!

Our incredible football season came to an end last Thursday.

This season had seen us become one of the top 4 primary schools in the whole of Leeds. We visited Clapgate Primary school in search of a place in the Champions of Champions Trophy Final.

Clapgate are well known to be the best team in Leeds and boast players from all different football academies so this would be a big test for ACE.

The wind played a big part in the opening stages of the game and Clapgate looked to take full advantage of playing with the wind. If it wasn’t for a handful of amazing saves from Oscar, they could have been out of sight. ACE battled hard but found themselves 2-0 down at half time through 2 great goals. The second half didn’t start much better with Clapgate going 3-0 up.

Just like all season long, ACE never gave up. They showed incredible resilience and team work to get back into the game. Ben scoring a brilliant free kick before Jeremiah made it 3-2 with a great team goal. Despite their best efforts, time run out and ACE narrowly missed out on the final. Huge shout to Oscar who showed everybody just how incredible of a goalkeeper he is.

I am so proud of the team this year. They have been a pleasure to coach and it has been a hugely successful season full of team and individual accolades. A huge thanks also to the parents who have watched and supported every week!

ACE Cup!

ACE once again hosted the ACE Cup. This is now a legacy event from the LEEDS23 celebrations.

We were joined by teams from Bradford Park Avenue Academy , Brighouse Town and PSC coaching academy who were from Dewsbury.

The sprits and enthusiasm of all the team were solid throughout, despite some poor weather during the day. We had a wonderful visit from the Lord Mayor of Leeds too.

The girls teams worked hard and received silver and bronze medals. With Brighouse taking the trophy. Special mention to Olivia and family, who were in London in the morning and came straight to the game.

The Y9s followed the same pattern with ACE picking up silver and bronze medals and BPA lifting the trophy.

The U11s tournament was a spectacular effort with the ACE team going head to head with PSC. Each game had been even to both team and the final was the same. The worst had to happen and we were down to a penalty shoot out.

This has to have been the most exciting and terrifying shoot out we have ever seen. There were amazing saves by Oscar, but then the PSC goalkeeper was doing the same. There were missed attempts by both teams. We reached a point that both the U11 teams had all taken penalties ,and we had to start again. We were on penalty number ten when ACE missed the target and PSC were the winning squad.
A massive effort!

Huge thanks to Mr Poole and Mr Dobson who were brilliant referees, to all the parents who attended and supported their children, to staff who gave up their time.

A huge thank you to all.

ACE shine in the sunshine!

On Wednesday, June 18th the ACE Girls football team played in the prestigious St Bart’s Club. This tournament has been running for 25 years and is open to all schools across the city. In this years event there were 47 teams.

The girls had a great start with a 3-0 win, our second game was more challenging and we lost .

From the third game onwards the girls gained confidence again and their final game in the first stage provided a 7-0 win, which led the girls to the last 16 teams in the tournament.

ACE won again and went into the quarter finals ( final 8 teams)  the game was very close but we lost.

The girls scored lots of goals with Erin netting 13 goals, Amy 9 and Isabel 2. ACE defence worked hard, and Mo had her best performances of the season.

We all had a brilliant time and we’re very proud of the effort in extremely high temperatures.

Well done girls!

Semi Finals here we come!

On Thursday 12th June, Our Y5/6 School Football Team hosted Gledhow Primary in the Quarter Finals of the Champions of Champions trophy. The trophy consists of all the primary schools across Leeds who won their regional league this school year. ACE won their regional league, losing only 1 game all season.

Gledhow hadn’t lost a single game this year so we knew this was going to be a very tough game. The game started very cagey with plenty of tackles and what seemed like a lot of nerves. We were supported by a lot of parents, teachers, Miss Patchett’s cheerleaders and other children from the school. The first half passed with Oscar making a couple of good saves but both teams cancelling each other out. ACE were working very hard as a team.

As the second half went on, Gledhow became stronger and stronger and played some great football. Oscar made a couple of great saves and Huw and Benjamin had to defend impeccably. 2 mins before the end of the game, ACE had the best chance of the game. Jeremiah got free, 1v1 with the keeper from a tight angle and forced the Gledhow goalkeeper into a magnificent game. So the game ended 0-0 and we went to penalties..

Jeremiah scored the first penalty, so did Gledhow. Harlee scored our second penalty, Oscar saved Gledhow’s penalty. Oscar then missed our third penalty, Gledhow scored. Kareem scored our 4th penalty and then Oscar saved their penalty again!

Ace win 3-2 on penalties. An incredible achievement fuelled by hard work and an incredible team ethic that has been present all year. Special mention for Kareem who had the confidence to step up and take the last penalty, superb. We now play at Clapgate Primary School in the Semi Finals on 24th June.

Tennis Tournament!

The children who are in the Booming Backhands group played in a Tennis Tournament, on Tuesday, June 17th. The tournament was held in glorious sunshine at Adel Tennis Club.

The level of play was very good, with some long rallies and well structured play.

The children had a great time and played lots of games, on reduced size courts.

The final was between Harlee and Ibby both were unbeaten in their group stages

Harlee just managed to grab the trophy in a thrilling final and became the Tennis champion for  2024/25. Everyone got certificates.

Majus also lifted a  trophy as best sportsman and positive attitude . Lots of the players said he was a great person to play against.

Well done, to everyone. Very proud of you all!’

Sports Day 2025!

This years sports day took place on Wednesday 11th June at Leeds Beckett University. We had such an amazing day filled with team work, encouragement, smiles, laughter and lots of fun.

Birkedale, Sunningdale, Turnberry and Wentworth all battled against each other by competing in events on the track and team games on the field, to win as many points for their house as possible. Who would come out on top?

It was a beautiful day with the sun shining down. Lots of sun cream and water were required. We didn’t have any moans or groans about the heat, they all got stuck into each activity and gave it their all. We had an opening and closing performance from our school cheerleading team who have worked extremely hard over the past few months ready to show their fantastic skills to everyone.

After a brilliant day of lots of hard work and dedication from the children and lots of cheering and encouragement from our parents and family members we had to have a winner! The points were counted, the trophy was gleaming and Mrs Stott was ready to reveal the winning house.

The winner of sports day 2025 was…….. Birkdale. Huge congratulations to you and a big well done to everybody who took part in such a fantastic day.

We would like to give our thanks to Leeds Beckett University and their staff for allowing us to use their facilities for another year. GSAL, who provided us with the coaches to and from sports day. The PE team, who planned and organised the day. Teachers and Teaching assistants, for being super on it and getting everybody where they needed to be at the right time. Parents and family members for taking time out of your busy days to come and support the event. Our ACE children for just showing what a credit you are to our school.

U11s crowned champions!

Following the deadline for playing matches in our league last Friday, I can now confirm that ACE y5/6’s finished as Champions of their League! We narrowly beat St Paul’s to top spot.

This now means we have qualified for the Champions league which will see us compete against all the other league winners across Leeds in a knockout format.

We have been handed a BYE in the round of 16 which sees us go straight through to the Quarter Finals. We will play either Gledhow Primary or St Josephs Wetherby.

The team have been incredible all season and besides talent, it’s the teamwork and positive environment created by both children and parents watching that have seen them succeed.

The team will also receive medals from the League for winning their league and also a league shield.

Super effort all round & attached is a picture of the final league table.

U9s Shining Stars – Champions League.

The event started with us being presented with our league champions shield.

The event was a brilliant showcase for football in Leeds.

The original league began in September 2024 and had 48 teams in the U9s section from across the city. The finals had just 8 of those teams going head to head.

We finished in 5th place in the champions league, all the boys played their hearts out in such hot conditions. They all received medals and made ACE extremely proud.

U9s Leeds North League Champions!!!

On Friday, April 5th , ACE U9s football team played St Urbans at St Urbans. The game was the equivalent of a cup final.

The boys had played almost every day during the week and confidence was high. From the first whistle ACE were determined to win the game. We had excellent passing partnership from William, Josiah and Yasa and the ACE defence Ethan, Daniel and Gustas were rock solid. Matthew once again made some good saves, and Gryff was strong in midfield.

Goals by William, Josiah and Gryff sealed the game and the Leeds North U9s League Champions are the wonderful, hardworking ACE team.

On the final whistle the team were hugging each other and then ran to their parents who embraced them and told them how well they had played.

The minibus journey to school included some very happy children singing and cheering. Our arrival at school, we saw some parents, dancing in the car park.

The children danced and sang their way into school.

Once parents collected their children they left school with “We are the Champions”, blaring out of some parents cars.

I am so proud to have had the opportunity to spend time with these children, who set off on a journey, which is not completed yet.  Next step, a chance to be Leeds Champions.

On May 1st we will play at the Boddington Football Hub against other areas of the city. Fingers crossed the team can rise once again to the challenge. I would like to close with the message l say to the team every time we have a team talk.

Believe you can do this,  and you can make it happen.

So proud of you all love Mrs Cosgrove ❤️🎉🎉🎉

Goal Fest!

ACE U9s are on a quest to win the North, Leeds, U9s league.

On Tuesday, April 1st we visited Gledhow Primary. When we arrived Holy Name Primary were also at the school.

We played a Round Robin event in lovely sunshine. First game was ACE v Gledhow it was a well paced game and soon goals were flowing for ACE. Our running partnerships were really well linked and the ACE defence was solid.

The game ended scoring ACE 5-0 Gledhow
Goals by Yasa, Gryff and Josiah

ACE then played Holy Name, from the starting whistle ACE were in control, and confidence was high.

Once again ACE goals were flowing with this game too and finished with a 5-0  score to ACE

A brilliant afternoon performance by the U9s team, a 10 goal fest in just 50 minutes!
