On Thursday 12th June, Our Y5/6 School Football Team hosted Gledhow Primary in the Quarter Finals of the Champions of Champions trophy. The trophy consists of all the primary schools across Leeds who won their regional league this school year. ACE won their regional league, losing only 1 game all season.
Gledhow hadn’t lost a single game this year so we knew this was going to be a very tough game. The game started very cagey with plenty of tackles and what seemed like a lot of nerves. We were supported by a lot of parents, teachers, Miss Patchett’s cheerleaders and other children from the school. The first half passed with Oscar making a couple of good saves but both teams cancelling each other out. ACE were working very hard as a team.
As the second half went on, Gledhow became stronger and stronger and played some great football. Oscar made a couple of great saves and Huw and Benjamin had to defend impeccably. 2 mins before the end of the game, ACE had the best chance of the game. Jeremiah got free, 1v1 with the keeper from a tight angle and forced the Gledhow goalkeeper into a magnificent game. So the game ended 0-0 and we went to penalties..
Jeremiah scored the first penalty, so did Gledhow. Harlee scored our second penalty, Oscar saved Gledhow’s penalty. Oscar then missed our third penalty, Gledhow scored. Kareem scored our 4th penalty and then Oscar saved their penalty again!
Ace win 3-2 on penalties. An incredible achievement fuelled by hard work and an incredible team ethic that has been present all year. Special mention for Kareem who had the confidence to step up and take the last penalty, superb. We now play at Clapgate Primary School in the Semi Finals on 24th June.
